Smashwords Writing Assistance for Authors Who Want to Self-Publish

We can help you organise your ideas, refine your manuscript, improve readability, and prepare the content and supporting materials needed for ebook publication.
Professional Smashwords Writing Services for Authors
Writing a book involves more than getting words onto a page. A strong manuscript needs a clear purpose, a logical structure, a consistent voice, and an understanding of its intended audience. It also needs careful revision before it is ready for digital publication.
Our Smashwords author services are designed around the stage your project has reached. You might need help developing a concept, completing an unfinished draft, editing a full manuscript, or organising the materials required for self-publishing.
A completed draft is an important milestone, but it may still need several rounds of revision before it is ready for readers. Our editorial support helps identify weaknesses and improve the manuscript without unnecessarily changing your original voice.
We recommend the appropriate editorial stage based on your manuscript rather than treating every project as a proofreading task. This helps you address major structural issues before investing in final corrections.
If you have finished a draft but are unsure whether it is ready for publication, our Smashwords manuscript review services can help you understand its strengths and weaknesses.
You receive practical recommendations that help you prioritise revisions. The purpose is to make the next stage of your project easier to manage, whether that means rewriting sections, arranging developmental editing, or moving towards final proofreading.
Every book begins with an idea, but turning that idea into a complete manuscript requires planning and consistent execution. We help you develop your concept into a structured writing project with clear objectives and an appropriate direction.
For nonfiction projects, we focus on the logical progression of ideas, the usefulness of the information, and the way each chapter supports the book's central purpose. For fiction, we consider character motivation, pacing, conflict, continuity, and reader engagement.
Picture books depend on the partnership between words and illustrations. The manuscript should communicate the story effectively while leaving meaningful space for the images to expand the setting, express emotions, and reveal details.
We also consider how the final book may appear on digital devices. An illustrated title may need a different layout approach from a text-led ebook, particularly when the placement of words and pictures is essential to the storytelling.
New children's authors often have questions about story length, age categories, illustration requirements, and the steps between completing a manuscript and publishing it.
We can discuss the intended audience, reading level, narrative structure, visual storytelling, series potential, and the materials you may need for ebook preparation. We can also help you determine whether your manuscript needs further development, editing, or a specialist layout.
A well-written manuscript needs to be prepared carefully before it can be distributed as an ebook. Content, file structure, metadata, cover art, and retailer requirements can all affect the preparation process.
Smashwords is an ebook retail brand owned and operated by Draft2Digital. According to Draft2Digital's current guidance, authors cannot publish directly into the Smashwords Store through a separate Smashwords publishing route; distribution to the store is handled through Draft2Digital. Authors should confirm the latest account and distribution requirements before proceeding.

Frequently Asked Questions About Smashwords Writing Assistance
What is Smashwords writing assistance?
Smashwords writing assistance is professional support for developing, writing, editing, reviewing, and preparing a book for digital publication. Services may include manuscript development, children's book writing, proofreading, consultation, author coaching, and publishing preparation.
Can I submit an unpublished manuscript directly to Smashwords?
Smashwords is an ebook retail channel rather than a traditional publishing house that accepts unsolicited manuscripts for conventional publishing contracts. Current distribution to the Smashwords Store is handled through Draft2Digital. Check the official publishing instructions for the latest requirements.
Do you offer Smashwords manuscript submission help?
Yes. We can help prepare your manuscript and related materials, including editorial revisions, formatting coordination, book descriptions, and metadata. The actual submission and distribution process is subject to Draft2Digital's requirements and the policies of selected retailers.
Can you write a children's book for Smashwords?
We can help develop children's stories, refine existing manuscripts, improve age-appropriate language, and organise story structure. The service can be tailored to your concept, target age group, and preferred reading experience.
Do you provide Smashwords picture book writing?
Yes. Picture book support can include concept development, concise storytelling, read-aloud rhythm, page-by-page planning, and coordination with illustration requirements. The manuscript and final layout should work together to support the story.
What is included in Smashwords manuscript review services?
A manuscript review may assess structure, pacing, clarity, continuity, audience suitability, and the quality of the writing. You receive practical feedback and recommendations for revision. The scope depends on the length and complexity of the manuscript.
Can you help prepare my ebook for distribution?
We can help prepare the manuscript and related materials according to the agreed scope. This may include formatting coordination, metadata review, and a readiness checklist. Final files must comply with the applicable requirements of Draft2Digital and the selected distribution partners.
What file format should I use for Smashwords publishing?
Draft2Digital accepts common manuscript formats, including DOC and DOCX, and supports EPUB uploads for ebook distribution. The appropriate format depends on your workflow and whether you want the platform to convert the manuscript or distribute an already formatted EPUB. Always check the current file requirements before uploading.
Do you offer Smashwords author coaching?
Yes. Author coaching can help you establish writing milestones, create a sustainable routine, work through creative blocks, and organise revisions. Coaching is tailored to your goals and the stage of your manuscript.
How much does Smashwords writing assistance cost?
Pricing depends on manuscript length, current draft quality, research needs, complexity, deadline, and service type. A manuscript assessment generally has a different scope from full-book writing or extensive developmental editing. Share your project details to discuss a suitable quote.
How long does it take to prepare a book for Smashwords?
The timeline depends on the manuscript's condition and the services required. A completed draft needing proofreading may take substantially less time than a book that still needs writing, structural revisions, editing, and formatting. We can discuss a realistic timeline after reviewing the scope.
Can you guarantee that my book will be published or sell well?
No. We can help improve the manuscript and prepare the required materials, but we cannot guarantee distribution approval, sales, bestseller status, retailer placement, or reader response. These outcomes depend on platform policies, distribution decisions, market demand, and other factors outside a writing service's control.
